Minister acts on new house of horrors case
Alleged paedophile ring was involved
THE Justice Minister has ordered that ‘urgent’ priority be given to an investigation into a second ‘house of horrors’ involving an alleged paedophile ring in Dublin.
It comes after the Irish Mail on Sunday published an interview earlier this month with a young woman, who claimed she gave birth to twin boys – as a result of rape – when she was just 12 years old.
The woman, now aged in her twenties, said she was raped for years by seven people, including a woman, and has given a number of statements to gardaí.
She said she gave birth to twin boys, the first of whom was ‘taken away’ by relatives, while the second died at birth.
It’s understood gardaí have interviewed a number of the alleged offenders and a file will be sent to the DPP this week.
The case bears a striking resemblance to that of Cynthia Owen who claims she gave birth to daughter Noleen in 1973 as a result of rape and that the baby was stabbed to death and dumped in a laneway.
Ms Owen alleged she was raped by a number of men in a paedophile ring – none of whom have ever been charged.
Frances Fitzgerald has now written to the woman at the centre of the MoS story, saying she has notified Garda Commissioner Nóirín O’Sullivan to ask that the matter be given ‘urgent attention’.a
In a letter dated March 8, a spokesman for the Minister said: ‘The Minister was very concerned to read of the situation set out in your correspondence and she is very conscious of the ongoing impact of serious sexual abuse on victims.
‘She very much understands your concern that those responsible for such shocking crimes should be held accountable.’
The letter stated that a full reportr had been requested from GardaG authorities.
The woman at the heart of the case said: ‘I want to find my son, that’s all I want.
‘I want to find him and be reunited with him.’
She believes her son, who would now be in his early teens, was illegally registered and is still living in Dublin.
She claimed that, after giving birth, she was forced to put his dead sibling in a shoebox, which was then put out for the weekly rubbish collection.
