SLEAZY BLINDERS... lengthy orgy scenes in gangland drama cause an online sensation
FEATURING explicit nudity and sex scenes, it’s not quite what you expect to see on a mainstream TV show.
But last week Peaky Blinders, the hit BBC gangland drama starring Cillian Murphy, sent pulses racing even faster with an orgy scene featuring gangsters, ‘whores’ and Russian Cossacks.
The orgy scene in Peaky Blinders, which is screened at 9pm, ran for several minutes and at one stage a shocked male character, surveying the debauchery before him, exclaimed: ‘It’s a f ****** madhouse.’
In another scene, a Russian aristocratic beauty assures the show’s anti-hero Tommy Shelby, played by Murphy, that her aunt ‘only employs the best whores’.
The steamy episode generated a frenzied debate on social media with one fan describing it as ‘one big orgy’. He expressed his own embarrassment at watching the show with parents and family.
‘The one night my family decides to watch Peaky Blinders with me the episode is basically one big orgy,’ he wrote. Another added: ‘Bad time for your mum to walk in. COVER YOUR EYES.’
The third series of Peaky Blinders, which depicts the violent rivalry between a Birmingham gang and Russian mobsters, has been the most successful to date and the BBC has already commissioned two further series.
The drama also stars Tom Hardy and Helen McCrory.
Murphy, 39, who is highly protective of his private life and avoids the celebrity circuit, has complained that the international success of Peaky Blinders means he can no longer walk the streets undisturbed.
He said last month: ‘As soon as I get my Tommy [Shelby] haircut, it’s game over. I did a film recently in the Czech Republic and I thought I’d be able to safely walk along a street in Prague but there were still people who came up to me.’
However, he added that he had no intention of leaving the show, saying: it’s hard to find writing as good as this and characters as good as these.’
The final episode of series three of Peaky Blinders is on Thursday on BBC2 at 9pm.
