You Me At Six

Josh Franceschi is a man in a hurry. The lead singer of English rockers You Me At Six already has a 12-year career behind him in the music business and at 26, is now celebratin­g the release of the band’s fifth album, Night People.

It’s the kind of work ethic that gets you places and the band’s new record looks likely to match the success of their previous album, Cavalier Youth by debuting at No.1 in the British charts. They also have a significan­t following in Ireland and promised to return in 2017 during a sweaty, frenetical­ly paced gig in Dublin’s Academy last October.

‘We’re happy with where we are and whatever will be will be,’ he offers, more philosphic­ally than his obvious drive would suggest.

Josh formed the quintet in Weybridge, Surrey in 2004 and bar one change of drummer, it is the same line-up that met as 14year-olds while at school.

They’ve evolved from a poppunk act in the vein of Blink 182 to a guitar heavy rock act that invite comparison­s to Biffy Clyro and other meatier rock acts.

For them it has been a steady rise, with the previous albums debuting respective­ly at No.25, then five, three and a 2013 entry at the top spot. ‘We certainly have built up our fan base over time,’ he says. ‘But we’re not nervous that we won’t go straight to No.1 this time. We won’t be in the least bit disappoint­ed if we don’t. For me, personally, we’ve achieved almost everything we set out to do. Having a No.1 album with our last record was so special to us. To try and replace it or repeat that feeling would be pointless.’
