Cousins’ surprise pairing in TG4 talent show

-

WORKING with family is no issue for cousins Sabrina Fallon and Mike Denver – even though it came about as a surprise.

Singer Sabrina was in America when she decided to audition for TG4’s country music competition Glór Tíre. Two weeks later the 39-year-old mother from Portumna, Co Galway, got a phone call saying she had been accepted for the show – and that Mike Denver was to be her mentor. Sabrina was ecstatic on both scores, as Mike (inset) is her cousin and also lives in Portumna but he never knew she was entering the show. ‘I never told him because I didn’t want to put him in an awkward position,’ said Sabrina. ‘I have been singing for a couple of years at weddings and a few gigs. But for the last five years I have been studying textiles in college and couldn’t devote myself to music. I promised I would go for it after I got my degree. I was nervous the first time I sang but as the weeks go on I will get used to it.’ n Glór Tíre, Tuesdays, 9.30pm, and Saturdays, 8pm, TG4
