Vogue’s furry faux pas

Reality show star branded an ethical sell-out by furious fans

VOGUE Williams has been labelled a ‘sell-out’ for wearing fur while filming controversial reality series The Jump, the Irish Mail on Sunday can reveal.

Vogue, 31, was forced to quit the show on Thursday after injuring her knee – before the first episode even aired.

But not before fans were outraged after she posed for photographs in a parka jacket with a rabbit-fur collar and lining. She also posed in a beanie hat with raccoon bobbles.

Promoted on her social media pages, the jacket and hat are by brand Popski London – which is dressing all contestants on the winter sports reality series.

While Vogue has remained silent on wearing real fur as part of her contract for The Jump, she was not quite so coy about recent faux fur choices. Just last year the model/presenter posted a picture in a two-tone faux fur coat, announcing: ‘I finally got this faux fur coat and it was on sale.’

She also donned a faux fur stole last year and similarly announced that she was on the ethical train.

Astonishingly, Vogue criticised Kim Kardashian when she dressed her daughter in a fur coat last summer. ‘I don’t really see the need to dress a child in fur either – and in LA of all places,’ she said.

Vogue’s more recent promotion of fur has angered people who took to her social media pages to express their outrage.

‘Is that real fur?’ asked one Instagram user. Vogue didn’t reply – despite responding to other people who commented on the same picture.

In another picture, a smiling Vogue was branded a sell-out for wearing a hat with fur bobbles: ‘Is that fur? I can’t believe you sold out.’

Asked for comment this weekend, a spokesperson for Ms Williams did not respond.

Vogue’s green parka with fur lining and trim costs nearly €700, while her double raccoon fur pom pom hat costs around €57.

Vogue is understood to have received a high six-figure sum for taking part in the show, which started four years ago. Fur for fashion has been largely condemned in recent years as the cruelty involved in the trade has been further exposed. In 2011, the Daily Mail exposed the horrific cruelty of fur farming in China after an undercover investigation at a raccoon dog fur farm, showed animals being skinned alive.

The Jump starts on Channel 4 at 7.30pm tonight and runs for six weeks
