Silva rallies the troops after loan deals pay off

- By Dominic King

MARCO SILVA has urged Hull’s players and fans to share his faith that they can stay in the Premier League after engineering their biggest result of the campaign.

The Portuguese head coach saw his remodelled side beat Liverpool with a debut goal from Alfred N’Diaye, who is on loan from Villarreal, and another from Oumar Niasse, who is rebuilding his confidence after a disastrous time at Everton.

Hull are now a point away from climbing out of the relegation zone and Silva said: ‘When I came the atmosphere was not the best. The squad were in the last position in the table. Many, many people don’t believe.

‘The first match I didn’t see our supporters in our stadium. Today I saw a fantastic atmosphere. This moment our supporters play with us. If I believe, I want my players, my supporters to.

‘Of course I’m happy with our performance — my team showed a fantastic attitude and fantastic spirit, and the important thing is to keep focus and continue to take more points.

‘We need to keep sight of our goal because we have only won three points and nothing more. But this shows the players that this is the right way and they can believe. This is important because

when the players don’t believe it is impossible.’

Niasse was told by Ronald Koeman last summer that he had no future at Everton but the Senegal striker has now scored twice since arriving at Hull on loan until the end of the season.

Silva said: ‘For me it is not important what the other managers told the players. If I take a player, it is because I believe. The past is not important, only the present and future.’
