Icy blasts from Scandinavia to shift as things heat up for Valentine’s Day
THE thermals got an outing this weekend as bitter winds from Scandinavia made their presence felt – but the good news is that temperatures will begin to rise before Valentine’s Day.
Plummeting temperatures this weekend have seen Leinster and Munster in particular battered with icy rain, sleet and scatterings of snow on high ground.
Lows of -3°C were reported in the Phoenix Park, Dublin, on Friday night, according to Met Éireann.
Although today will be cold, tomorrow promises to be a little warmer and it will approach more normal values as the week progresses.
After a damp start in the south of the country tomorrow it will clear to a bright and sunny day with temperatures between 7°C and 11°C.
Met Éireann says the rest of the week will see a return to more normal weather with temperatures steadying to between 7°C and 12°C during the day, and dropping back to between 2°C and 5°C at night.
Despite the freezing conditions this weekend, it has been sunnier than normal for the time of year and Ulster benefitted most with sunshine levels throughout the province at 150% of the norm for most of last week.
The outlook is for milder, cloudy weather as the week progresses, with a shift to Atlantic winds.
A return to wetter conditions is predicted going into next weekend.
