Hero? Not on Martin’s watch

-

MICHEáL MARTIN asked a number of frontbenchers to compete for the role of Brexit supremo. Enterprise spokesman Niall Collins, Foreign Affairs spokesman Darragh O’Brien and Finance spokesman Michael McGrath all tried to step up. Agriculture man Charlie McConalogue and Education man Thomas Byrne tried. Niamh Smyth, a border TD, did her bit.

But it was the talented media darling, and cool clean hero Michael McGrath that emerged from the pack.

That’s Michael McGrath, the constituency colleague of Micheál Martin. He is the man who will eventually mount the foremost challenge to Martin’s leadership.

So Micheál recruited Stephen Donnelly from the Independent benches to do the job.
