I would love my own CHA CHA chat show

Teresa Mannion ‘wouldn’t rule out’ a talk show when DWTS ends… She’s even got a name for it

RTÉ news reporter and Dancing With The Stars hopeful Teresa Mannion might consider a career change – once she’s hung up her dancing shoes.

Asked this week, if she would like to host her own chat show, she laughed and said she ‘wouldn’t rule it out – it would be nice’.

‘I’ve never really thought about it but “Talk to Tess” has a ring to it,’ she told the Irish Mail on Sunday, adding that the notion of her own chat show was ‘very flattering’.

‘It’s really gratifying to know there’s big public support out there for me on Dancing With The Stars,’ she continued. ‘When I finished college, I went straight into children’s TV and then a science show, so I have worked in lots of different areas.

‘That’s why Dancing With The Stars has been so much fun. It’s a light-entertainment, showbiz type of show – the polar opposite to news. I wouldn’t rule out a chat show – it would be nice. It’s nice to dip your toe into different projects. If you have done news, then you can pretty much do anything because you have to move so quickly.’

Teresa became an internet sensation in 2015 after her frantic weather report during Storm Desmond went viral. Bracing herself against the wind and rain she warned us not to make ‘unnecessary journeys’ or ‘take risks on treacherous roads’.

But she herself has been creating a storm on the dance floor with partner John Nolan over recent weeks. This is set to change on tonight’s show – RTÉ One at 6.30pm – when she dances to Little Richard’s Tutti Frutti with new partner Ryan McShane, who said this will be Teresa’s best dance yet.

On whether she expects to make it to the final, Teresa said: ‘Each week for me is a bonus. I have never danced before and there are people who have more ability – I would like to see the really good dancers make the final.

‘Genuinely, I mean that. I don’t see myself in the final. I don’t know how I would cope if myself and Des Cahill [RTÉ sports presenter] are in the final. But hopefully people will continue to vote for us.’

‘It you have done news you can do anything’
