Ouch! Munier’s in a stew with the Revenue

- By Niamh Walsh

AS A restaurateur and maître d’ Nick Munier has built his reputation on keeping people happy, but he’s upset the office of the Revenue Commissioner which has issued proceedings against him.

Documents lodged with the High Court office on February 10 show the Collector General is pursuing Mr Munier for unpaid taxes.

The 49-year-old former Masterchef presenter’s latest venture is Avenue in Crowe Alley in Dublin city centre, which opened last year. Days after its opening the head chef Tom Walsh walked out after a disagreement with Munier.

Mr Munier moved to the new restaurant after an acrimonious exit from Pichet restaurant in the city in 2015 after a dispute with his partners that led to the High Court. At the same time he split with his wife Denise O’Brien who also worked in the business.

The latest accounts for Munier Limited show that the company, of which he’s co-director with PR woman Alannah Feeney, recorded a loss of €255,290 and creditors of €406,873 as of 2016. Another of their firms, Nimu Productions, shows a small profit of €44,657. Another set up by the duo in 2014 lost €14,237.

It is not clear if the Revenue’s action relates to these firms but there is no case against Ms Feeney and she is not being pursued for any monies. Mr Munier did not respond to request for comment.
