Burns deserves to face the third degree in Down
WAIT for it. As the future of Down manager Eamonn Burns remains uncertain on account of his team’s embarrassing form, the argument the players are to blame must be imminent.
It is the refuge of those traditionalists convinced that modern players are all about rights but have no interest in responsibility.
This is rubbish. Managers must reflect the ambition of their players but they should also be able to facilitate it. If a team is failing, players have to share the blame. But if the best managers are praised when teams succeed, struggling ones are obliged to face their failures.
