THE GADGET BUZZ

WITH ANDY O’DONOGHUE

The cars of the future are coming. It will drive, you’ll enjoy the view and it will squeeze itself into the parking space you never could. It may be some time before we see autonomous vehicles here but the smart, connected car is already a reality now.

Some cars have internet access built in already, but Logitech has created an affordable add-on device that could help the large number of older cars access the benefits of the connected world while on the road.

The ZeroTouch is a small, mountable phone holder for your dash. There’s a dash-mount version that looks much like much like a GPS mount but there’s also an air-vent version that I tested. The ZeroTouch is light and small, measuring in at just 38mm across and around the same from front to back. It is well made, sturdy and available in three colours.

With the mount there are two metal adapters to help your phone attach to the magnetic mount. The mount works in tandem with the ZeroTouch app for Android phones, available from the Google Play store.

I downloaded the app, and attached the ZeroTouch mount to my air-vent. It attached easily and the gripping prongs are firm so I didn’t feel concerned about it falling off as I drove. My phone attached to the ZeroTouch instantly and after activating Bluetooth and pairing the devices, we were off.

The name ZeroTouch is the clue
