TIMELESS, classic, elegant, effortless, sexy and stylish: fashion lovers are really loving Ruth Negga’s inimitable style on the Oscar trail – which ends tonight with the ultimate red carpet.
The Best Actress nominee has consistently shown that less is more, dominating red carpets in a series of show-stopping numbers while promoting Loving.
Ruth – who previously starred in Love/ Hate – is keeping her main-event dress under wraps, only telling reporters this week: ‘I’m wearing a very beautiful dress. It does take a long time to get ready but that’s something I want to enjoy and savour.’
But the Irish Ethiopian star has a penchant for Italian, particularly Valentino, when it comes to her fashion,.
Her sole nod to Irish designers has been a Simone Rocha stole, which she wore last week.
Ruth seems to favour a more covered-up approach than many of her Oscar rivals, choosing demure high necks and below-the-knee hems. However, last week she took everyone by surprise in a romantic but risqué Valentino gown with a plunging neckline. The actress has enlisted celebrity stylist Karla Welch – who also dresses Olivia Wilde. Olivia says working with Ruth has been a fashion dream: ‘We’re on the same page, so it translates in a very easy way.’ Ruth has embraced her fashion evolution. ‘I get up in the morning and wash myself, if I’m lucky. And then people come into my room and put my face and hair together, put clothes on me and I’m out the door! ‘They do all the glam. I’m not fashion-forward but I have got to wear some of the most beautiful things – all of which I’ve returned, by the way.’ Ruth is one of the favourites to win the Best Actress award in Hollywood tonight and the eyes of the world will be on her – and her dress– when she walks down the red carpet at the show tonight.
