Windy City
Alison Krauss (Capitol Records)
You might think Beyoncé is the most nominated female in Grammy history but Alison Krauss’s astonishing 27 wins make her the most successful by that criteria. Don’t be surprised if this solo effort (without band Union Station) rakes up another few. Any country singer can deliver a song of heartache, but few do it as well as the 45-year-old from Decatur, Illinois. She could have chosen any set of songs in the canon to cover but her versions of Roger Miller’s River In The Rain, Brenda Lee’s Losing You and Gentle On My Mind are pitch perfect.
