THE Tuam scandal first attracted international headlines in 2014 following revelations in this newspaper. Again this week, the story made international headlines, with the New York Times, the Washington Post, the BBC and the Guardian among those covering it.

The New York Times detailed how local historian Catherine Coreless’s work was dismissed by many just three years ago.

The Guardian wrote about the ‘mass grave of babies and children found at Tuam care home’ and the Washington Post ran the headline ‘Decades-old mass grave of children’.

The Washington Post identified the ‘worldwide publicity’ which the story gained and the BBC also gave it prominence.
