A NIGHT of family celebration ended in violence for singer Keith Duffy last weekend, the Irish Mail on Sunday can exclusively reveal.

The singer and actor was assaulted by six men in celebrity hotspot Lillie’s Bordello in the early hours of last Sunday, according to onlookers.

Duffy, 42, was celebrating with

‘They just set on Keith. There was no reason’

his wife Lisa after attending the premiere of their son Jay’s film Handsome Devil at the Audi Dublin Film Festival.

The pair were in high spirits when they pitched up at the famous Dublin club for a postmovie tipple. But their night ended after Keith was assaulted by a group of men who attacked him in the club’s VIP area.

The incident occurred after a group of men became verbally abusive towards Duffy’s wife Lisa. After he stepped in, the men then turned on the former Boyzone singer, said a source.

‘Six guys surrounded him in the club after Lisa came running looking for him,’ said a source. ‘She was upset by the behaviour of these guys. He got a few digs – there were a few of them. There was six on one.’

The source said Duffy was left badly shaken by the incident.

The club’s security staff intervened after they were alerted to the fracas.

Gardaí arrived on the scene shortly after the incident after they were called to investigate.

By the time the gardaí arrived, Duffy had left the club for home, so it is understood he did not provide a statement. The six men had also left the club.

‘Lisa was really upset. They just set on Keith, there was no reason for it, it was unprovoked,’ said an onlooker.

Earlier in the evening Keith had tweeted about his family night out to support Jay in his first movie role.

‘So proud of @jayduffy,’ he wrote. ‘We are so blessed.’

The trio dined in Saba restaurant before heading to the movie screening.

Duffy became a regular at Lillie’s in the 1990s after he shot to fame in Boyzone. Duffy, who has been married to Lisa since 1998, recently joined forces with former Westlife member Brian McFadden to form duo Boyzlife. The pair have been touring the UK with their act.

Keith Duffy is represented by Dan Parker of 84 World, whose stable also boasts McFadden. Speaking to the MoS Mr Parker confirmed the incident.

A spokesman for Duffy said: ‘There was an incident, but it has been blown out of proportion. Keith was back at work the next day. He’s fine. It was just a minor thing. He’s OK.’

When contacted, the club said they had no comment.
