Room to Improve gets an extension

- By Niamh Walsh

RUNNING over time and over budget seems to be a feature of architect Dermot Bannon’s renovations.

And it seems a delay has now upset an episode of his current RTÉ series of Room To Improve. There will be an extra episode shown later in the year due to stumbling blocks encountered on one project.

An RTÉ spokesman said: ‘The episode has been slightly delayed due to unforeseen problems on site. However, viewers can look forward to seeing how it turns out later this year.’

The final episode for now will be screened on RTÉ One at 9.30pm tonight and features newlyweds Rosie and Keith, who want to transform their 1970s suburban semi in Templeogue in Dublin. The current series has attracted larger audiences than the Late Late Show. Although it seems that Bannon’s creative choices are a hit with viewers, his on-screen clients are not always overjoyed with his handiwork.

For example, last week he installed a red roof despite specific instructions from the couple that they wanted it to be green.

Bannon explained afterwards: ‘I just assumed if they were happy with green they’d be happy with red.’
