ANTONIO CONTE confessed to never quite knowing why N’Golo Kante swapped champions Leicester for Chelsea but says it was £32million well spent. ‘It was great business,’ said Conte, who raves about the man who has become the heartbeat of Chelsea’s title challenge. ‘I think he’s a complete midfielder. He has fantastic stamina — also good technique, good positioning and a good personality.’

And he’s a winner — no one player has been on more winning sides than Kante since the start of last season. Kante’s haul of 42 wins is eight more than the next best, Tottenham’s Dele Alli.

Over that same period he is also the Premier League’s top tackler and had most interceptions. Leicester might have regarded Kante as the

complete midfielder, yet in a couple of key departments he has improved again under Conte.

No one doubted Kante’s tenacity and tackling but since moving to Chelsea he has also upped his passing. Can he get any better?
