Enda’s fantasy

-

Enda Kenny arrived back in Dublin last week with great news – or so it would seem from the spin. ‘When’ Northern Ireland and the South re-unite, the North can become a member of the EU, just like East and West Germany.

Yippee! No border, hard or soft. None of the problems we are all worried about because of Brexit. Problem solved. Not.

Rather than deal with the issue of the real border when Brexit is complete, we are fed a mythical assurance that when Ireland is united there will be no problems. Let’s get real. Forget the possibility of a united island. It’s not going to happen in the foreseeable future. Let’s deal with the problems of a border that will happen after Brexit. That is our current – and urgent – problem.
