Sinn Féin overtakes FG in poll, making it Ireland’s second most popular party
SINN Féin has overtaken Fine Gael to become the second most popular party in the country, according to the latest opinion poll.
This weekend’s Behaviour & Attitudes Survey also shows a big drop in support for Fianna Fáil, although they are still the most popular party in the country at 28%
The poll records a boost for Sinn Fein at 23%, one point ahead of Fine Gael and its highest-ever rating in a Behaviour & Attitudes Survey.
Satisfaction with the Government drops three points to 26%. The poll was commissioned by the Sunday Times and conducted over nine days up to last Wednesday.
The survey also asked its 955 participants who they would like to see lead Fine Gael. Leo Varadkar came out as the clear favourite on 30%, well ahead of nearest rival Simon Coveney on 18%.
