SPRING may be on its way, but the latest celebrity hair trend seems designed to keep everything ultrachilled. A host of the most fashion-conscious A-listers – from model Cara Delevingne to Twilight actress Kristen Stewart and singer Lily Allen – have swapped their black or brunette locks for a startling icy white look.
And the inspiration is definitely more Disney’s platinum-haired Princess Elsa from the hit movie Frozen than Hollywood’s original blonde bombshell, Marilyn Monroe.
Last week, veteran fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld – who can blame only his advanced age for his shock of white hair – issued instructions that Cara should take her star turn at his futuristic Chanel show in Paris sporting a headline-grabbing new icy shade of platinum. Singer Lily Allen followed suit with her own frost-top. The craze has been prompted by the latest advances in haircare and a newly launched conditioner that allows stars to keep their hair long, despite having it bleached.
Previously, glamorous Hollywood actresses such as Jean Harlow, Jayne Mansfield and Lana Turner damaged their hair with bleach and cut theirs short to save it from falling out (though some of today’s stars have volunteered for the short crop).
I went to L’Oréal Professionnel colourist Jack Howard for the desired look. But is it cool enough to be hot – or a pale imitation of these stars who are the new ice-blonde bombshells?
