Unseated, but not forgotten
FIANNA Fáil’s Colm Keaveney, one of the last Dáil’s more engaging characters, lost his seat in the 2016 General Election. There was some consolation last week.
Catherine Corless and her family thanked him for his tireless support of their cause in exposing the Tuam Mother and Baby home scandal. After this newspaper published revelations about the home in 2014, Keaveney, left, said the Taoiseach should have offered a formal apology on behalf of the State for what he described as ‘appalling treatment of mothers and babies’. Catherine’s husband Aidan said: ‘Sure he eventually lost his seat for doing so.’
