Martin lies second in race to the sun

-

CYCLING: Irish cyclist Daniel Martin sits second overall in the Paris-Nice, with just one stage to come after a fine effort on the Col de la Couillole. The Quick-Step Floors rider finished third on stage seven, which concluded at the highest-ever summit finish in the history of the race. Australian Richie Porte (BMC) won the stage, but he is way down overall. Spain’s Alberto Contador was second and he finished 11 seconds ahead of Martin (pictured), who nicked in front of Team Sky’s Sergio Henao to get third. The Colombian, Henao leads the race ahead of today’s hilly final stage, with Martin 30 seconds back, with a further second to Contador of Trek Segafredo. Nicolas Roche is 17th overall.
