Circa Waves (Virgin EMI) HHHHH

Despite singer Kieran Shudall not sounding obviously Liverpudlian, you could guess that Circa Waves were from various parts around the Mersey. They adhere to the city’s indie heritage, personified by the Coral/Cast/La’s axis, fairly rigidly. There is certainly more than a hint of John Power and Lee Mavers in the vocals, their accents apart. The band bluster through Fire That Burns, A Night On The Broken Tiles, Love Runs Out and other loud/quiet/loud wannabe anthems that might pass muster if you aren’t demanding too much originality.
