It’s 1939 and MGM are about to launch The
Wizard Of Oz into an America still scarred by the Depression years. The last thing they need is a scandal. So when a series of murders implicate the Studio, the call goes out to tame cop Jonathan Craine to hush things up. But Craine, struggling to get over the death of his wife, is no longer the easily corruptible fellow he once was. Brilliantly atmospheric and compelling, this is a very effective evocation of the dark side of Hollywood’s golden age.
