Sophie Frances Cooke’s debut showcases a strong soulful voice and a musical style that lies somewhere between Ellie Goulding and Adele. Many of the tracks on the singer-songwriter’s album are slickly produced ballads. It’s no surprise her songs have ended up on soundtracks to movies such as Fifty Shades Darker. Grow and Don’t Worry About Me are the pick of those here. A few more up tempo numbers in the vein of Drifting wouldn’t have gone amiss. It does however represent a solid entrée from the highly touted singer.
