Church’s shame

-

It was sad to hear of former Bishop Eamonn Casey passing away. Amazing how shocked the Catholic Church and Mass-goers were when the story broke that he had a son and a secret partner.

He was disowned in jig time by the Church. Yet how tiny was his perceived sin when compared to the activities of other princes of the Church who sexually abused children, and those powerful men of the cloth who actively sought to cover up the greatest crime and sin of all.

Not to mention the religious orders that ran Magdalene Laundries, industrial schools and mother and baby homes as if these ‘refuges’ were located in the Seventh Circle of Hell.

RIP Bishop Eamonn Casey, humanitarian and clerical breath of fresh air. John Fitzgerald, Callan Co. Kilkenny.
