Don’t despair on rural crimewave

-

It was heartening to read of the success of the CCTV installed in Dunmore, Co. Laois, to deal with a plague of burglaries (MoS, March 12).

It’s easy to despair at rising levels of crime and to regard the situation of those living in isolated rural areas as hopeless. But this shows that a community coming together and installing high-tech cameras can make an enormous difference.

If the Government could now find the money to reopen some rural Garda stations, I suspect that crime rates could be quickly slashed nationally.
