Konta faces perils of Pauline after month of injury misery

-

JO KONTA is trying to build momentum for the European tennis season after suffering injuries in the past month.

Today she plays French world No 57 Pauline Parmentier in the third round of the Miami Open after a rain-interrupted win over Aliaksandra Sasnovich.

It was only Konta’s second match in six weeks and she said: ‘It was very difficult. A lot of stop and start with the rain and you had to manage the frustrations. I was pleased with how I competed in the third set. With the breaks the momentum could have shifted and gone the other way.’

Parmentier went close to beating world No 1 Angelique Kerber in her last tournament but Konta insisted: ‘I’m here to hopefully play a full 10 days.’
