Body of woman found in suitcase in Italian port

- By Ruaidhrí Giblin

A POST mortem is due to be carried out today on the body of an Asian woman discovered in a suitcase in the Italian port city of Rimini.

The body is not believed to be that of missing woman Xing Lei Li, who has not been seen since February 11, and whose Dublinbased husband is suspected of her murder.

However, the Irish Mail on Sunday understands that a local coroner has enquired about Ms Li’s height – and as such a potential connection is being investigated.

Daniel Belling was arrested while attempting to board a Ryanair plane from Rome to Dublin where the couple lived in Clare Hall. He is currently in custody in Italy.

Mr Belling, 45, claimed he last saw his wife when the cruise ship they were on docked on the Kataklon island in Greece.

He said his wife, aged 38 and originally from China, did not return after he embarked on a day trip with his children.

Italian police suspect Ms Xing never exited the ship because her personal key card was not used and did not register her leaving the boat.

In Rimini yesterday, on the west coast of Italy, the body of an Asian woman believed to be aged between 35 and 40 was discovered in a suitcase.

The body was naked and believed to have been anorexic.

If the mafia were responsible, the body would not have been discovered, a local source said.

Local media have reported the incident as a ‘dense mystery’. The body was dismembered and was in a state of decomposition.

The discovery was made yesterday morning by two people who had arrived at the port to fix their sailboat.

They pulled the suitcase aboard and inside were the remains of woman.

Rimini, lies on the Adriatic coast while the cruise on which Mr Belling and his family travelled was on the Tyrrhenian coast, on the other side of Italy.
