Laois defy odds to retain their place in Division 1B

- By Steven Miller

LAOIS hurlers maintained Division 1B status after an incredible extra time win over Kerry last night.

Laois played almost the entire first 70 minutes with 14 men following a straight red card to Neil Foyle in the second minute. But despite the disadvantage Laois led 1-15 to 2-6 at the break, the goal from a long-range Cha Dwyer free which went all the way to the net.

Laois looked to have done enough late on with points from Patrick Whelan and an Enda Rowland free but the Laois keeper fumbled a shot in the last action of normal time and extra time was needed.

Kerry drew level but Aidan Corby got the O’Moore men ahead again.
