A FATHER of three has died tragically in an accident believed to have involved a home incinerator in Co Wexford.

The man, named locally as Aidan Cummins, of Ballygow, Carrick-on-Bannow, was rushed to Wexford General Hospital after sustaining head injuries yesterday afternoon. He died a short time later. The mechanic was burning material in a homemade incinerator at the time and it is believed that there may have been an explosion.

Mr Cummins, who was in his fifties, leaves behind his wife Joan , a daughter aged 12 and two sons aged 10 and 14.

The gardaí and Health and Safety Authority are both investigating.

Local councillor Willie Fitzharris told the Irish Mail on Sunday that the community was in shock.

He added: ‘Mr Cummins had a garage beside his house. He was a lovely, well-respected, hardworking, unassuming kind of a guy and a great family man.

‘This is a tragedy for his family and the whole area.’

Separately a family friend and neighbour described the news as ‘devastating’.

The friend added: ‘He was a very helpful man, always willing to help others.

‘He was very popular and it’s extremely sad that this has happened.’
