400 lines of inquiry on missing Trevor

- By Debbie McCann CRIME CORRESPONDENT

GARDAÍ are following 400 lines of inquiry in their bid to find out what happened to missing Trevor Deely, the Irish Mail on Sunday understands.

This follows the release of enhanced CCTV footage earlier this week which shows Mr Deely speaking to an unidentified man whom detectives believe was acting suspiciously in the minutes before Mr Deely vanished. An anonymous donor is also offering a reward of €100,000 for information.

Mr Deely was 22 when he went missing in the early hours of December 8, 2000, after he called to his workplace, Bank of Ireland’s asset management offices on Wilton Terrace, Dublin 2, to get an umbrella after a Christmas party. The footage captures a man dressed in black outside the rear entrance of the bank, prior to Mr Deely arriving.

The man appears at 2.59am and waits behind a pillar for around 35 minutes. At 3.34am, just before Mr Deely approaches, the man steps out and follows him to the bank’s back gate before chatting to him for a few moments. Mr Deely then enters the offices and emerges 37 minutes later with an umbrella before walking towards Baggot St Bridge. CCTV footage shows him passing the Bank of Ireland ATM on Haddington Road at 4.14am. This is the last known sighting of him. Gardaí are satisfied a man seen following Mr Deely in this footage is the same man who was in the Wilton Terrace footage.

Mr Deely’s sister Michelle said on Friday that finding him would ‘mean the world’ to her family.
