Eta gives up guns
BASQUE separatist group Eta has begun surrendering its weapons to the French authorities.
The group handed over the locations of eight weapons caches in a ceremony in Bayonne yesterday. French interior minister Matthias Fekl called it a major step towards peace.
Eta terrorists killed more than 800 people in a 43-year campaign as they tried to create an independent country. The group declared a ceasefire in 2011 but didn’t disarm.
