O’Donovan senior cries foul at defeat

-

ROWING: Paul O’Donovan led in his brother Gary in the men’s single sculls final at Skibbereen Regatta. On a beautiful, sunny, day the Olympic medalists continued to excel – and then joke about it. ‘He cheated,’ said Gary, pointing at his brother’s boat. ‘He has a carbon fibre wing rig, I have only aliminium.’ Paul (above) said his recent comments about rowing with Gary only if his elder brother was fast enough was ‘to give him a kick’. They will compete as a lightweight double at the World Cup Regatta in four weeks’ and defend their European title at the end of May. Sanita Puspure, who had a fine win over Monika Dukarska in her single sculls final, also looks set to make her mark there.
