one more Gooch yarn in the week that’s in it. We stayed in the Radisson Hotel the night before the 2004 All-Ireland final and we all had our evening meal, but Johnny Crowley and Gooch missed it because they were at a forwards meeting. When they arrived down they were starving, but the duty manager – who had poor English – insisted the kitchen was closed and all that was on offer were wedges and wraps. Jack O’Connor raged: ‘I can’t just put a feed of wedges in front of Johnny Crowley and the Gooch.’ ‘Okay sir,’ replied the manager, ‘I will see what we can get for Mr Johnny, but hotel policy is we don’t feed pets.”
