Taoiseach wants ministers’ reports

GovernMent ministers are preparing progress reports for taoiseach enda Kenny as they near the summer recess, according to Minister of State for Disability Issues Finian McGrath.

He told the Irish Mail on Sunday: ‘enda Kenny asked us all to bring in a kind of a progress report, the things we got done last year. We’ve all been given instructio­ns to give the taoiseach’s department a year’s review of what we’ve done

‘every minister had to do it. It’s a progress report. It’s his schoolteac­her background, I suppose.’

on his progress report will be increased funding for the disability sector, an increase of 6% up to €1.68bn for this year. the orkambi drug should soon be available for cystic fibrosis patients. Carers for people with disabiliti­es now get a respite grant of €1,700 annually. Large care facilities are being closed, and Mr McGrath said the pace of closures needs to increase, but community services must first be in place.
