Kitman Vincent will be hard act to follow

-

they looked after the heavy lifting on our road trips and Vincent was never less than thorough, with the van packed and ready to go on a Friday evening.

But he treated the jerseys like they were pieces of sacred cloth. When we overnighted, they were never left out of sight in the van as he would haul them up to his room.

I remember Botty telling me that it would not be unusual for Vincent to undertake a last-minute stock check just to make sure that they were all there before going to bed.

He used to do his best to feign exasperation. If you went looking for some extra gear because you had not brought it with you, he would give you this five-second stare as if to say ‘don’t be testing me’ before rustling something up.

The ironic thing for a man who looked after the Kerry shirts with such care was that he was a native of Kiltimagh and I remember he was so proud when Paul Galvin invited him to his wedding which was held in his native Mayo.

St Peter should brace himself for the stare should he dare forget his togs for a heavenly game of backs against forwards.

Rest gently friend.
