TRIBE STILL UNKNOWN QUANTITY

-

TALK of Jonathan Glynn commuting from America reminded me of Pete Finnerty and Gerry McInerney in the 1980s, and that didn’t work out too badly for Galway!

They take on Limerick with a more established team than John Kiely who is only in his first year and still getting to know his players. I like the way he came out and defended his young players earlier in the year, telling supporters who were giving them stick to give them a chance.

They had a good win the last day against Cork and are building a good, young side.

Daithí Burke and David Burke remain two of the mainstays of this Galway side.

Like 100 other times though, you just don’t know what you’re going to get from them as a team.

They showed both sides against Waterford. I don’t know were they complacent when going so far behind in the quarter-final before reasserting themselves to finish strongly.

That day proved again how central Joe Canning is to Galway’s hopes.

So much is expected off him, the flak he gets when he doesn’t carry the team is hard to believe. An average performance from him is still way above most others. His form is a big plus and I expect Galway to come through.
