On a loser in this championship
THAT Ballyboden St Enda’s season is effectively over after just one match in April – 13 months after they claimed the Andy Merrigan Cup in Croke Park – shows the absurd nature in which Dublin runs off its senior football championship. Aside from the county team, who benefits from the straight knock-out format? There are other problems. Kilmacud Crokes scored 10-12 against Erin’s Isle in the type of mismatch that will only occur when you have 32 teams in a senior championship. How else could it be? The strength of the club football scene in Dublin is admirable, but there are plenty of issues for them to iron out, too.
