In truth, it would have been slightly awkward in terms of his legacy if his own county were the only ones not able to field, given his much-touted support for the ‘warrior’ game. The farce of the Ulster Seniour Hurling Championship, though, showed the battle that is still to be fought to grow the game outside its traditional strongholds.
