One man banned from PR gig?
THIS Wednesday, Wexford GAA supporters will meet and greet the senior hurling and football teams and management. The question is, though, how does this square with the eight-week suspension handed out to hurling manager Davy Fitzgerald on foot of his pitch incursion in the league semifinal? Does this ban, which supposedly covers ‘all functions, privileges and competitions under the association’s control’ extend to a PR meet-and-greet? It just shows how nonsensical the rule is. The role of manager has evolved massively in recent years, covering all aspects of preparation. It’s hard to think that’s how the ban was originally intended, rather than a way of removing sideline privileges, which is the GAA’s right. A suspension that removes a manager from the sidelines for two Championship games is surely suitable punishment in itself?
