HE was outstanding against England in the final Six Nations match. Expect him to be influential for the Lions, too, provided he is fit. Physical concerns remain about Sexton, whether he likes it or not.

He will be 32 on July 11, three days after the final Test against New Zealand, and getting him to Japan in two years’ time will be the priority once next season begins.

Whether Sexton will be able to command a back-line in his mid-30s will depend on how his body holds up. There have been signs this season of what might be, given how he has synchronised on occasion with Robbie Henshaw and Garry Ringrose.
