Leo’s a step ahead at PR
LEO VARADKAR might or might not make a good Taoiseach. But he will continue to be fun for the media.
He has called for an unprecedented TV debate for the two contenders for the Fine Gael leadership.
The successful candidate to succeed party leader Enda Kenny will be Taoiseach. This is a fairly rare event. Brian Cowen was the last to assume high office during a term, and there was no contest.
Leo is unlikely to get his wish. Yet he has put Simon Coveney on the back foot and even if Coveney supports the move, he will still look like he is avoiding it by coming out second.
And we all know Varadkar would probably slaughter him anyway.
I always feel Leo would have made a better public relations consultant than a politician.
