County bosses hold sway
IT DIDN’T take too long for the warm glow that surrounded Galway’s first National Hurling League title since 2010 to evaporate. Suggestions that the county over-egged the celebrations looked wide of the mark – as manager Micheál Donoghue pointed out. Indeed, bringing the cup back to the St Thomas’ club, the home of captain David Burke, was a nice touch rather than a sign that the players were losing the run of themselves. But it’s the decision to ride roughshod over the agreed local championship fixture list that has already put club noses out of joint. While the heavy backlog of inter-county activity was used as an excuse to postpone a recent round of fixtures, once more it shows how the club scene is in thrall to the wishes of county management and county
