Comedian plans a twist for his Vicar Street gig, as...
COMEDIAN Des Bishop is set to reunite with his Dancing with the Stars partner at his upcoming Vicar Street comedy gig.
Des and his professional dance partner Giulia Dotta were voted off the hit RTÉ dance contest in the sixth week but have since remained firm friends.
The stand-up, who is currently splitting his time between New York and Dublin, told the Irish Mail on Sunday that both Giulia and her boyfriend Kai Widdrington, who was fellow comedian Katherine Lynch’s partner, will be flying in for the June 2 gig.
‘We do some dancing at the end of my stand-up shows every now and then. We will be pairing up on Friday, June 2, and we are doing a little number at the end of the show.
‘Both Giulia and Kai are flying in for the gig and we have all become life-long friends so that’s been great.’ He added: ‘Whether we follow through and go for a full-on comedy dance show is still a little up in the air. We have done numbers on several of my gigs in Cork and Wexford and it went down really well with the crowd.’
Speaking of splitting his time between New York and Dublin, Des, 41, said: ‘I have been over and back quite a lot over the past few years because my mother was sick. The thing I love most about gigging in New York is that you can just go up and do those killer sets but then there’s nothing like coming home to Ireland and having the absolute craic.’
Meanwhile, the multilingual comic, who has mastered Irish and Chinese, is setting his sights on Arabic. He said: ‘Learning Arabic can’t just be for Irish TV this time, so it would have to be a co-production. So far, we have had no real luck but it’s definitely something I’m interested in doing. Arabic will definitely be the next language.’
