FRANCES FITZGERALD
TáNAISTE AND MINISTER FOR JUSTICE PROS CONS
She has destroyed her career at the Department of Justice. Although her indecisiveness can be partially blamed on the Government’s fear of sacking the Garda Commissioner this will not absolve her. With gang wars raging across Dublin city, only the rankand-file gardaí have prevented anarchy. If Fianna Fáil will not support her as justice minister it will not support her as taoiseach.
She is the third woman tánaiste and the first three years of her ministerial career, at the Department of Children, were a success. She is perceived as having a cool and reassuring exterior. The election of a woman taoiseach would be a progressive and encouraging move for the country. She is experienced. SUITABILITY 3/10 FOR TAOISEACH
