Passport hold-ups expected at airport
MILLIONS of passengers will face delays getting through Dublin Airport this summer due to the sudden closure of the automatic passport control gates at Terminal 1.
The four automatic border control gates were introduced in 2013 to speed-up delays in the passport hall which covers EU and non-EU passport holders.
This weekend the Justice Department’s Immigration and Naturalisation Service confirmed that the automatic scanning facility will not resume until the Autumn.
According to staff at the control stations, the automatic gates have had to be removed in a row over maintenance contracts. The Justice Department declined to comment on this.
