True Care
James Vincent McMorrow
Dubliner McMorrow dropped his album on Friday, a mere eight months after the excellent We Move. Here, among his stated concerns are the abstract notions of the future, and the record opens with a track called December 2914. In Holding On, he sings: ‘Don’t take things so literally.’ I won’t, because I’m not sure what such oblique lyrics as ‘I order food, pomegranates, not my favourite fruit’ allude to. Musically, he is folky in looks and sense memory only. He is now playing a type of minimalist future-funk that is almost always exceptional.
