Neutrality’s value
It seems that whenever there is a bombing atrocity perpetrated in a European city, Ireland’s policy of neutrality is attacked as being unprincipled and selfish.
It is claimed we enjoy the benefits of EU security while refusing to contribute to that security. Those who hold these views seem to hold cheaply the lives of 84 Irish soldiers sacrificed while serving on peace-keeping missions under a UN mandate.
The Irish Army is acknowledged worldwide for its impartiality and professionalism.
Our security forces are not dropping death from the skies over the Middle East but are plucking lives from the seas of the Mediterranean. Tom Cooper, Dublin 6W.
